Age Limits:

All players of Curiosities are expected to be 18 years of age or older. If a player is determined to be younger than 18 years of age, they will be removed from the game.

All characters are expected to also be 18 years of age or older and have the mental and emotional capacity as well as the appearance of someone of that age. Any character that is determined to be played otherwise will be removed from the game.

Alts:

You may play more than one character; however, they must all be linked using the system in “help alts” to identify them.

They may not mechanically aid one another in ways including but not limited to being in the same combat, being used to circumvent crafting limits, passing IC information between them, or allowing access to areas they have not been granted in character.

They may coexist in social scenes of sufficient size that they are not materially interacting with one another, but should otherwise exist independently of one another.

Players who cannot alt responsibly will be denied further alts and/or removed from the game.

Building:

Many residences in Hollygrove can be rented using in-game mechanics. If you would like to see something added to the game, feel free to reach out to staff to discuss it. PCs may own businesses and property in game if it makes sense. Pitch your idea and we can discuss it.

Consent and Conflict:

We are a collaborative storytelling game, which means we would prefer everyone work things out between themselves in a polite and courteous manner either through OOC agreement or use of in-game systems when appropriate.

Players are never required to RP anything that makes them uncomfortable and may request a fade-to-black with an agreed-upon resolution.

Fade-to-black does not free one from the consequences of IC choices, however. Staff may be contacted via the GM channel to help arbitrate if any questions arise.

We are a PVE/CVE game which means both players and characters are pitted against the environmental factors including NPCs rather than one another or one another’s characters.

In the event that conflict does arise through in character activities, please be respectful of one another’s enjoyment.

Please review “help consent” for use of our consent system which allows players to specify which types of RP they welcome, which they wish to avoid, and which they will not engage with.

Disruptive Behaviour:

This is a game run by a private individual and assisted by volunteer staff. It is not an insignificant commitment of time, energy, and finances to maintain. We are under no obligation to provide access to the game or its resources to anyone for any reason.

If a player causes distress to myself, my staff, or my players, they will be removed from the game.

Be kind and considerate to one another. Communicate civilly. Get consent. Do not be creepy or possessive of other players or characters. Do not bring racism, sexism, ageism, ableism, homophobia, or any other offensive isms and phobias to this game.

Idling:

Characters which have not completed character creation may be purged every couple of weeks. Please make sure that you complete the process if you would like to play.

Characters which have completed character creation but have been idle for more than 90 days may be recycled. If you are going to be away for an extended length of time and would like your character to be preserved, please reach out to staff and let us know.

No Contact Requests:

Sometimes players cannot get along with one another for one reason or another and that’s okay. Sometimes personalities, RP styles, and RP content desires conflict. While we do ask that players make an attempt to try and resolve differences between them, we recognize sometimes that is not possible.

A player may request no contact with another player. Staff will confirm that the no contact request is in place with both players involved.

After that, it is up to both sides to make all reasonable efforts to maintain no contact. This includes avoiding one another’s homes, businesses, and direct areas of influence as well as avoiding what may be considered direct or indirect antagonizing behavior in those same areas.

This excludes large plot scenes and events where all players should be able to bring their characters. During these events, it is asked that both parties simply confine their RP away from one another as much as is reasonably possible.

NPCs:

It should be assumed that Hollygrove is populated by other residents of the town, tourists passing through, and any number of supernatural beings and phenomena at any given time. Just because there are no PCs in a location does not mean that it is entirely vacant. You may feel free to make mention of “fluff” NPCs being present in most logical public locations during reasonable hours.

Fluff NPCs should not offer a mechanical benefit to your character, fight with or for you, or take jobs/spotlight away from PCs.

The exception to this are approved puppeted NPCs designed to provide a mechanical benefit and provided by staff.

Player Run Plots:

We encourage players to run their own plots within the parameters of the world that we have created. If you would like to run an event or a short plot, feel free to do so bearing in mind these few restrictions:

  1. You must get consent from the owner of an area before running a plot within their business or their home.
  2. You must get consent from staff before doing any lasting or permanent damage to the grid and/or the locations on it.
  3. Any large-scale events that will impact more than a small geographic area should be cleared with staff ahead of time.

If the plot only affects a small number of people, does not make significant changes/additions to the canon of the game, and causes no damage or alterations to the environment, you can probably just run with it.

Staff does reserve the right to request changes or the removal of events and/or revisions to plots if problems are found with the content of the plot.

Privacy:

Every command that is entered into the game is logged and archived. These logs are not actively monitored but can be used to investigate cases of abuse of game systems or disruptive behaviour.

Do not share any personal private OOC information in the game itself whether it is yours or someone else’s. If you wish to share your own private information, please provide an outside method by which you can be contacted.

Please also be aware that there are some methods by which characters may ICly be able to see, hear, or otherwise receive information through IC means without being perceived. Your character may or may not be aware that such possibilities exist, but as a player, bear it in mind.

Real Life and RP:

We are choosing not to focus on immediate RL current events including the pandemic or political situations in the US and abroad as part of our RP. These things are going on in the IC world but they are not the focal point of our story and we ask that if you mention them in your RP, to respect other players if they ask that we focus on Hollygrove and the realms of Curiosities.

Use of AI

Many of the images on the Curiosities site were created with the aid of Midjourney AI. Players are welcome to use such resources to generate images for use on the site as inspiration for their characters and businesses.

We request that if AI is used to assist in the creation of character backgrounds and descriptions or room descriptions, that they be used only as suggestions and that they be edited for content, grammar, and to fit within the theme.

Please do not use AI to write poses. We are all here to play with other human beings in a collaborative storytelling environment. Only our NPC robots should be voiced by coded prompts.
