A foggy night view of the water and a port town.

The Lobster Shell

Tucked beside the end of the walking pier is a little place serving up the freshest catch. The building is a little shack with open air windows that prop in the summer to shade the interior, and open it up to harbor breezes. Inside is a small round bar seating perhaps ten persons at a time, dark lacquered wood polished to a high shine. Drinks like hurricanes and piƱa coladas are popular, all served in sealife shaped glasses stacked with fruit and cheery umbrellas. Blenders go almost nonstop at the bar, featuring all kinds of tropical flavors. Surrounding the bar on all sides are four top tables and wood chairs, and the walls are ringed in cushioned wood booths that look out the open windows. It’s easy to chat from here with those passing by on their way to the farmer’s market or pier.

Newspapers are folded at the end of every table for those who like to order crab legs or lobster and may get a little messy with their seafood. The walls are covered in license plates, carved wooden fish, paintings, nets, and other artworks that showcase the sea and nautical themes. If you ask any of the servers about the license plates, they’ll tell you about the shark(s) the plates were pulled from. At least two staff at any given time are ready with shark factoids to entertain customers.

This place is great for buckets of assorted seafood, socializing, and mixed drinks. They’ll also cook up your catch for you if you bring in something from a fishing charter.
