The Black Dog Motel
The Black Dog Motel sits just off the state route, easily visible behind a small stand of trees. It’s tucked up against some rolling empty acres, with a wide view of the land behind it from the back windows of the suites, terminating in a stand of trees. In the snow, in the dead of winter, it looks like a warm little haven blanketed in white, rustic exterior a log cabin mimic, though it’s facing. The motel is a two story with stairs up and iron balcony railings. Every room opens out to the front, and it’s built in a horseshoe shape. Someone attempted to nestle it back in some trees, so pictures from a certain angle make it look nestled into a forested nook. It is not.
There’s a twenty four hour office that’s always lit, though not always manned in the dead of night (there’s a 24-hour key drop). A large MOTEL sign sits atop it, so you can’t miss it in the night, some letters flickering time to time. There’s always a vacancy, as it’s the cheapest place to stay, with charming views! Several rumors persist about this place, and most locals won’t stay here because of them.
Inside, the rooms are furnished very sparsely, colors leaning to earth tones. Which means brown carper and brown bedspreads with cedar panels inside. At least it smells nice! Well, most… of the rooms do. Sorry about Room 14 .

Things Worth Noting:
- Rm. 8 is haunted.
- There’s a semi-annual body dump in the back lot if local gossip is true.
- Not enough bleach in the world for Rm. 14 but it is cheap.
- An entire biker gang was killed here in the 90s.
- Zero online presence save a twitter account that may or may not be real (but is verified). @blackdogmo
- Presenting proof of occupancy gets you a discount on gas at the Lucky 7 across the highway.
- The attached Empty Field Bar & Lounge is closed for reno and has been for some time. No one knows what the hold up is.
