A foggy night view of the water and a port town.

Old Bramble Burying Ground

Established in the 1700s, Old Bramble Burying Ground takes up a large portion of the town’s outskirts to the west, part of it bordering a stand of trees just beside the beach. The cemetery borders Old Bramble Road on one side, tucked into forested, mostly-flat ground. There are several sections of cemetery here, winding with little walking trails, gardens maintained by locals, and many, many sculptural monuments. Several mausoleum’s stand along the grounds, some long since closed, a few prominent families still using theirs.

Most of the ground is spoken for here, but there are a few plots left for the taking, still more waiting the final rest of the people who purchased plots years ago. Most people who come here to so do pay their respects, take a walk among the beautiful stones and memorials, geocache, or partake in spooky photoshoots. There’s something blooming in the gardens year round, and it’s also a popular spot for a local foraging club. During warm days, it’s not uncommon to see families having a picnic on the grounds. At night, the occasional gathering takes place here, though for most, it would be wise to join in only with an invitation.
