A foggy night view of the water and a port town.

Geisthaus B&B

Geisthaus Bed and Breakfast, nestled lakeside into the woods of Seven Ponds, is painted a deep soot grey with high ceilings, wide windows, stained glass witch windows, and a steep gabled roof. Once a family home, this old building is a quaint place to stay along the lakefront, with all the flavor of small town charm with tons of history—still owned by a local family! It’s known to be the site of at least one disappearance, one accidental death, and once served as a spillover ward for those suffering TB. The floors are old and a bit creaky, dark-stained, walls papered in various vintage, flocked patterns. Walls are hung with old photos and paintings of the area from generations of residents. The house has thirteen rooms of varying sizes, though only seven of them sleep guests. Breakfast and a light lunch are provided in the price of room rental.

The pride of this place is a long, wide kitchen with a huge island that seats up to five for food prep and buffet setups. It’s got two ovens, an eight burger stove, and features some professional equipment like stand mixers, an espresso machine, and wine coolers where guests can store their own bottles. The gardens out back are composed of various toxic plants including lots of foxglove, oleander, lantana, and bitter nightshade.

Haunting:
To this day, many people believe Geisthaus is haunted. Still more folks think that’s just a morbid gimmick to bring in guests. Whatever the truth, you never know whom you’ll meet roaming the halls. Aside from at least two small voids in residence, one very thin and loud when greeting guests, the other quite rotund with a creaky meow. Each of the black cats has a little black studded collar, and guests are warned pre-booking that the establishment is kitty friendly and thus those with allergies should reconsider residence.

Some say they’ve seen a pair of slinking Dobermans on the property, occasionally peering in the windows, though none has even come face to face with them directly. Some guests report them sliding like shadows out of the periphery of their vision.
