Gauntlet Paintball
The Gauntlet is a large series of paintball arenas are set off from the main road down a few wending turns. There’s a large gravel lot, a fenced area to suit up, load up for games, and hang out between them. On the action side of the fence is a wide field with a few gentle rises, structures build in, obstacles placed, some of them moveable. Some structures are open barns, some little climbing walls, lean-tos, and even vehicles; a pair of vans and an old pickup truck spattered with paint rest a few yards ahead of the tree line. The arena opens into a forested area with several areas of engagement, full of constructed hiding spots, little walls and fortifications made from fallen trees and windfall lumber. The area is dotted with old paint, half washed away by rains—all the paint used here is biodegradable and nontoxic.
Protective gear is required on the field, including face protection, chest pads, and it’s suggested you wear multiple layers of clothing for cushion against impact. At night, several lights on the field are lit up, but plenty more is left in darkness. The temporary structures and obstacles are moved every few weeks to keep the arrangement fresh for players. Referees generally stand safe at various areas, clearly marked in neon sweaters and outlandish gear. Games may be played without refs, but in that case, every person in attendance must sign a waver.
