Scattered along Hollow Beach are cottages, some stilted on the sand, most separated from the beach by a thin stand of trees, most with oceanfront views. There are, however, several that are more inland that back up against the White Cedar Swamp Trail to the southwest. Most of them have that very distinct beach cottage theme to them. They are painted in a series of soft colors like sea green, island blue, and tropical yellow.

The road that winds through the woods and down along the shore takes a twisting, turning path and makes a full loop back to the entrance from Tidewater Ave. It is narrow and two vehicles navigating in opposite directions may need to do some careful maneuvering to pass one another, particularly during the winter months for those residents who remain year round.
