A foggy night view of the water and a port town.

Castle Skateland

A one story building with high ceilings, the place is shaped like a Castle made of large grey bricks, complete with parapets and a portcullis outside. Upon entry through a side door of its large lot, the skating rinks proves to be one of the largest in the state, with a wide oval floor of light wood varnished to a high shine. Above are all manner of lights for various themed evenings, including rave and blacklight settings.

To the left on entry is a huge skate rental counter. Also on offer are pads and helmets for those who’d like to spend for them, and a little custom skate shop for those who’d like to buy their own skates. A little further down is a concessions stand featuring huge vats of popcorn, soft pretzels, cheap pizza, nachos, and cupcakes. Fountain drinks are on offer, and there’s a couple vintage pinball machines in the lobby, along with a few arcade classics like skeeball. Low seating rinkside is available to watch the skating or to put on your skates before heading out. There are also scattered tables for eating, hanging out, and generally chilling. A long hall leads to the restrooms.

The rink itself is huge, and usually has at least a dozen skaters on, though it fits many, many more during prime time. A huge DJ booth to one side plays tunes upon request. There’s a counter-height wall for those who want to linger by the side, and at one end of the oval some bench seating on the rink to catch your breath.
