Morrie’s Greasy Spoon
Morrie’s Greasy Spoon is a themed diner in classic cherry red, black, and white, and situated not from the motel out on the 6. The walls are hung with framed black and white photos of places around town as well as locations the family owners have visited on their travels, vintage guitars, and a few local artworks for sale by aspiring artists. The booths are well cared for, upholstered in rich red with a white triangle down the back, tables clean and edged in chrome. The tables are closely placed and cozy, some long and sat family style, inviting multiple groups to sit together and enjoy conversation. Booths line three walls.
A huge case of baked goods and homemade candies sits in the back of the diner, at the far end of a long counter with an antique brass plated, crank-style cash register with tiny ceramic buttons. Blown glass cake stands line the counter, several from abroad, all clearly at least 100 years old. Each has a different flavor of home baked pie perched atop it, some contain cupcakes, cake slices, or pastry.
The entire place smells of rich, hearty soups with a sweet undertone of cinnamon and apples, probably from the most popular item on the menu, their deep-dish apple pie decorated star cutouts and coarse sugar. Behind the counter, easily visible from all those upholstered stool seats, is a long kitchen window where orders are placed then ready, short-order cook visible in the pass.
